Lines of research

Line 1:
Development/validation of psychometric instruments

The aim is to develop rigorous and effective instruments of measure in the fields of child mental health and maltreatment and to collaborate in validating or updating extant instruments.

More specific themes:

  • Validation of a standardized questionnaire (ETRAD-Q) on attachment disorders
  • Validation of a diagnostic interview (RADA) on attachment disorders
  • Parenting capacities assessment
  • Validation of the Extented Modified Maltreatment Classification System (EMMCS)
  • Study on the reliability and validity of the Rorschach Performance Assessment System (R-PAS)
  • Study on the reliability and validity of the Roberts-2
  • Convergence between neuropsychological and projective/implicit assessment methods (R-PAS, Roberts-2)

Line 2:
Risk factors and prevalence of mental disorders

The aim is to gain a better understanding of the role of different risk factors, including the many dimensions of maltreatment and parental behaviours, in the emergence of specific mental disorders among children (trauma- and stressor-related disorders, see the DSM-5) and to study the prevalence of mental and neurodevelopmental disorders among children in CPS care.

More specific themes:

  • Prevalence of mental/neurodevelopmental disorders in children placed in foster care or residential care
  • Prevalence/overdiagnosis of ADHD
  • Risk factors (dimensions of maltreatment) for mental disorders linked to stressors/trauma (reactive attachment disorder, disinhibited social engagement disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Prevalence of developmental delays (and developmental delays catch-up/recovery) among preschool-aged children followed by child welfare
  • Risk factors (dimensions of maltreatment) for developmental delays

Line 3:
Risk factors/CPS outcomes

The aim is to further knowledge of the role played by different risk factors in various phenomena of instability among children in CPS care, such as re-reporting, placement re-entry (reunification breakdown) and long term foster care placement breakdowns.
